A unique and surprisingly helpful True Value! Nice folks, good prices. So good, infact, they're often on par with other 'big box' places I've shopped--and sometimes even a little cheaper! Definitely worth a visit--they have the staples to keep your projects going, and even a few seasonal surprises to keep you coming back. And they've one of the most interesting craft sections I've ever seen in a hardware store. Definitely recommend.
I bought a Poulan gas powered Chainsaw at this store in Bucksport, ME in September 2010. This was going to be my first gas chain saw (I had an electric one before). I was not sure if I wanted the gas one. When I was buying it I asked the store associate about their return policy.

The associate assured me quote "We have a pretty good return policy" I bought the chainsaw and found the gas chain saw too cumbersome to operate (I did use it for 20-30 minutes) and ended up buying an electric chain saw.

When I went back to return the chain saw, I believe 6 days after I bought it. The cashier said “We will not take any used items back no matter what”. I called 5-7 times and also talked to the original store associate and he assured me that he would get back to me after talking with the owner (Jerry). I have been waiting for a couple of months now and have given up on returning the product. I even wrote to True Value, but no response again. I was hoping to support a local store, but other big retail chains have much better service and return policy (Wal-mart, Sears). I will never buy from True Value and the Bucksport store again.
We were very surprized how big this store was. They had lots and lots of stuff, good selection, even arts and craft supplies like yarn and sewing notions which is handy when it saves us travel of 10+ miles to another store. Some of the houseware items were expensive, but they had hard-to-find old time items we can't find elsewhere. I wish they would participate in the free ship-to-store programs so if we need to special order things on line we could get them without additional shipping charges.
